Sugar Production

The world production of 94-97 million tons of sugar (regarding raw sugar) accounts for 56-60 million tons of sugar cane and 36-38 million tons of sugar beet. There are about 1500 sugar cane factories and about 1000 sugar beet factories (more than 800 of them are located in Europe) in the world.

The main ingredient for sugar production is sugar cane and sugar beet. About 45% of the world's sugar is derived from sugar beet and 55% from sugar cane. While the method of sugar derivation from sugar cane was not known, people had to chew the cane and swallow the juice.
